LEGENDARY PLAYING VENUE

- THE Archbishop’s palace -

Side by side with Nidaros Cathedral is the Archbishop's Palace (Erkebispegården). For more than 800 years, the Archbishop's Palace has been a meeting place for powerful men, an arena for important meetings and grand parties.

Today, you can find three museums in the Archbishop's Palace, and the oldest part of the palace is used as a representation room for formal receptions and dinners. In the vaulted rooms in the west wing, you can visit the National Regalia Exhibition (Riksregalieutstillingen), where the royal crown and other Norwegian regalia are on display. In the Archbishop’s Museum (Erkebispegårdens Museum), you can experience original sculptures from Nidaros Cathedral and see the most important finds from the archaeological excavations that took place in the Erkebispegården in the 1990s. In the Defense Museum (Forsvarsmuseet), Rustkammeret, you can learn more about the history of the defense in central Norway.
