See more info regarding distances below.

PARKING

You can easily travel by car, but keep in mind that there is restricted parking around the playing venue. You may have to park the car in the inner city. You can find more information here.

WHAT TO DO IN TRONDHEIM?

Other activities in Trondheim

We know that for most of our contestants, they need no other reasons to join than to have the opportunity to play chess against great adversaries in a unique setting with the possibilities to win norms and prizes. Still for those of you who might be the travelling company of a contestant or the contestants who wishes to take a small break from thinking chess during the tournament, we have made a list of activities that hopefully will enrich your experience when you visit Trondheim city.

Nidaros Cathedral

Nidaros Cathedral - a richly decorated gothic masterpiece in the heart of historical Trondheim.

The cathedral is built over the tomb of St. Olav, the Viking king who brought Christianity to Norway. Construction work began in 1070, and the cathedral was completed around 1300. After several fires and a lack of maintenance in the Middle Ages, the cathedral was in very poor condition. In 1869 extensive restorations were begun, and today the cathedral is again restored to its original grandeur.

Archbishop’s Palace

Along with the Nidaros Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace has a unique place in Norwegian history.

Ever since the end of the 1100s, the Archbishop’s Palace has been an arena for important meetings and grand celebrations. For hundreds of years, the castle was the seat, residence and administrative center of the Archbishop of Nidaros. Today the oldest part of the Archbishop's Palace is used for representation ceremonies and banquets. You will also find three museums here: The Crown Regalia, The Archbishop's Palace Museum and the Armoury.
